I’ve just finished another Farey semi-recocking trap acquired from a batch of club equipment. It’s different from most of the other lever traps I’ve had in that the working bits are all on top rather than underneath, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is some sort of prototype production model.
My pictures show the trap in the ‘Safe’ position but basic operation is just the same so to use the trap for the first time the arms would have to be pulled anti-clockwise until they lock behind the ratchet, pointing towards the left. From then on the lever does everything; pull back to cock and push forward to fire.
As all the workings are on top the throwing arms are bent upwards for clearance, different from other Fareys but a similar design to many other manufacturers. Some of the bits were missing so I’ve added a few replacements – teal clips, stops, springs, most of the top arm assembly and base. Both rubber rails are in good order with new fixings and a strengthening plate at the end of the arms.
I was surprised at how little wear there is on the main shaft and it housing, there haven’t been many clays thrown. The trap does throw a nice pair, it’s not the most powerful or prettiest spring you’ll ever see but the whole outfit would be ideal to put out some softer clays for a novice gun. Elevation adjustment for higher targets is by a bolt at the back of the base and the whole thing is tightened up with three 19mm bolts.

I’m not sure this trap would suit heavy handed club operators as it isn’t quite as robust as other lever Fareys that I normally see, having said that it does work well on my range. It is a bit more tatty than some showing rust, the main spring does what it should but is more pitted than most so I’d be happy to change it for you if required.
