Stuart No.3 Double Arm Trap (SR339)

I recently found this trap as a half hearted attempt by the previous owner to rebuild it to working order, not very successfully as it turned out. It is a mid term version of the heavy cast iron Stuart No.3 double trap with a good range of elevation. I have stripped and rebuilt the trap to be a good working example, albeit with modifications to the original design. Stuart No.3 Double Arm Trap (SR339)Somewhere along the line the spigot that drops into the notches to lock elevation angles had broken off so there was no lock, the trapper had to rely on friction. A hole had been drilled through the casting so I have used that to add a stud which now drops into a selection of depressions to create a safe mechanism to elevate and hold the trap. The original large centre bolt needs to be tightened after adjustment and has a lock nut.Stuart No.3 Double Arm Trap (SR339)

Despite the curious paint and previous failed rebuild I am surprised at how little use the trap has had, probably because of the broken spigot early in its life. The shafts are good, as are both drive rubbers, spring and ‘j’ bolt which has a nicely welded wing nut. The two arm spacers have been changed, there’s a new spring bush, one teal clip has been replaced and both re-rivetted to the throwing arms.Stuart No.3 Double Arm Trap (SR339)I have seen plenty of these No3 ‘Teal’ traps and it’s really strange to have found one with a little wear as this in such an odd condition although it has been easy enough to rebuild to a standard that I’m happy with and can sell with my money back guarantee. Stuart No.3 Double Arm Trap (SR339) There’s plenty of life left in this heavy and strong trap, it should be an expensive item but because it has had a couple of changes to the original design it’s a bargain!Stuart No.3 Double Arm Trap (SR339) SOLD
