If we leave aside the 2000 I generally consider a Gyrator the senior partner of the Bowman stable, it’s a fantastic trap for many reasons. As with all the big Bowmans the Gyrator throws single or double standard, midi and mini clays and like the No.3 it is single point elevation adjustable. The heavy cast frame has spring adjustment, primarily for changing springs and the ability to tilt from side to side. There have been several of these through my workshop but this is by far the best second hand one I’ve seen, probably it’s only thrown a couple of boxes at the most. The trap is clean, showing just minor surface rust on the steel and cast iron parts as with all but the very new Bowmans. Each bearing is greased and in good order as expected from a trap that has seen barely any use. The trap was designed to tilt side to side as an answer to throwing clays in a side wind or to provide a long curling target. I think most of the traps were sold with one arm to get length and speed so a double is a bit special although not a rarity. Tilt is by a single stud on the quadrant at the back so if you have a wind blowing left to right the trapper would tilt to left to counter the wind and straighten the clay. To throw a curling clay the trapper would tilt left or right pulling or pushing the clay back or forward along the arm. The triangular base has five holes, two of those will match this tripod or a standard cradle base, the other three are for your own mounting points. I acquired the trap without a base but have found a tripod to mount is on, you’re welcome to buy the head only if you have something in mind to fix it down to. The whole thing as pictured will fold into a long, narrow but fairly heavy piece of kit to stand in the corner of a shed.£370 (+£25 delivery) SOLD
