I’ve seen a few of these Eley Trapmates which are usually fitted with Bowman traps, here it’s a Bowman Junior single arm trap. Stories I’m told seem to suggest that they were given away as competition prizes as well as offered for general sale.Most of the the towball traps I have come across are missing the collar that enables the trap seat & base to stay on the car rather than just flopping down to the ground. There is a collar here, not the original but home made although it does the job and works well.I am aware there are several types of towball so the collar may need a bit of filing to fit yours, mine is a comfortable fit that I don’t want to alter in case yours is the same. Along with the collar, there’s a repaired and strengthened trap mount with a welded elevation base instead of being bolted straight to the base. It’s a belt-and-braces job to fit the Junior to what was probably a No.2 base. The trap itself is a standard Junior with a sprung teal plate to hold the clay for higher angles, ideal for beginner’s singles or quick following pairs for the experienced gun. Greased bearings and a re-rubbered rail complete the ensemble. This is an easy trap to set up and use, taking very little space to transport and store. £70 (+£15 delivery)
