I’ve just acquired a Hi-Fast Tornado from a private owner who bought several traps a while back and didn’t get much use out of them. I’ve ended up with several boxes of clays and traps which don’t look as good as they are, this one is a prime example. This machine will throw single standard, midi or mini clays at all angles from low grass cutters to high teal, elevation is by hand, no tools needed. I stripped the trap down with thoughts of using the parts elsewhere but it’s turned out to be a satisfying job.The trap was bolted to a flame cut Farey base, heavy and unwieldy so I’ve adapted a Flightmaster base just by drilling four new holes in the top plate. There’s also a new ‘t’ bolt underneath to lock the detachable back leg into place. For some reason the trap has had the cocking lever removed, my suspicion is that the base, top arm and lever were damaged and easier to cut off than repair. That doesn’t matter though as the industrial quality clutch bearings and the main shaft are in excellent order so it’s easy to re-arm the trap by just pulling the throwing arm a quarter turn ready to load a clay.

I’ve replaced the main spring with a more suitable example for a single thrower, there’s a new set of nuts and bolts and a new nut on the ‘T’ bar to replace a broken knob. To fire the trap there is a sprung release lever, a simple but very safe and effective system.
The throwing arm is in good condition with a virtually unused rubber drive rail and a straight, sprung teal plate. Since I took the pictures I have also added a new clay stop to the arm. I tried the trap out on my range and it’s one of the sweetest throwing traps that I have used for a long while, it would make a beautiful machine for a novice or junior to learn clay shooting or to fit in well on a sporting set up throwing a single very high teal. I could also make a second arm to make the trap into a softer double trainer pair if required.SOLD
